Here comes the sun!

Finally after dealing with pouring rain over the past two days (over 6" fell in one day!), we get to see the sun. Granted, it is happening off and on, but at least it's not raining. The roofers came this morning as promised. During the rain the ceiling of our apartment started leaking in three spots. Nice. I am just happy that it was a slow leak, so there weren't any drips falling down on us at all. Major leaks seem to be the norm around town -- AAA, campus buildings, the gym.

I saw The Spiderwick Chronicles last night. It was a cute movie, but I wasn't fully sucked in. As usual, I'll have to read the book.

Today is errand day: laundry, dishes, groceries. Plus I need to do a little coding, so I had better get moving. More later.

I'm slacking a bit...

on this goal of mine to keep this blog updated. Today was a really good day, although I am currently beastly tired. My tiredness is primarily due to the fact that I haven't been to the gym in a week, but it is rather comfy right now to be sitting in the almost-dark under a fuzzy blanket typing away while watching Osborne play video games. Tiredness fits this setting well.

But... about my good day. I've at least used my time away from the gym to get some good coding done. I've been really productive with my transient flow simulation in the past couple of days. I am only nervous about the performance of the initial condition generation function, but I'll test that tomorrow and then keep plugging away. Very exciting! :-)

Tomorrow I also really need to look into making a schedule and sticking to it. At work I am responsible for three projects which are entirely disjoint and require diverse skill sets. I find that without a schedule that says, for example, that Monday AM is dedicated to Project A while Monday PM is for focusing on Project B, I get sidetracked on one project only. While I do get things done with my current method, I find that I haven't made progress (however minute) in all areas. This skill will be good for me to master, especially if I ever have the chance to work at one of the national labs again. Fastidious multi-tasking is a necessity in that environment when you have to charge certain project task numbers for a fixed percentage of your total work time.

We just went outside in our pajamas to look at the current state of the lunar eclipse. The moon is now approximately 80%-20% made of mud and blue cheese. It's pretty neat. And we saw Saturn and Regulus too, as promised, although I can't pretend that I was able to differentiate between the two with my naked eye.

My changing tastes...

In pulling together my list of "Books on Tap" I realized that my taste in books has changed drastically over the years. It has snuck up on me, but I have become... a reader of fantasy.

I remember back in 8th grade sitting in music class listening to Jeremiah, Ira, and Kim talk about these strange characters Frodo, Bilbo, and Eowyn. I never really got it back then. No interest at all. Thank goodness we all change in time (although unfortunately I still haven't read any Tolkien).

I think Eragon by Christopher Paolini was the beginning for me. That is my recommendation for the day. Now I'm off to walk off this cold of mine.

Here's a test...

How much will I like this blog site? I'm not sure. I tried Xanga, but it has never fully clicked with me. I use it to keep up with one of my sisters, and Osborne's sister uses it as well. I've put a lot of pictures up there, and I will probably continue that practice.

However, I've never had the urge to spill my guts to Xanga. I don't really know why. But I do know that I like the look and feel of this site a lot more, so perhaps I will be inspired. Maybe this will become my linguistic outlet, while Xanga will remain the visual chronicle of my life.
